🌿✨ Frequently Asked Questions ✨🌿

📦 How long does it take to get my hair?

Every set of locs is handcrafted by me, start to finish. Because I work solo, turnaround times depend on my current workload and the flow of orders.

✨ If you’d like a personalized estimate, reach out—I’m always happy to communicate and keep you updated.

  • U.S. Shipping: 2–5 business days once shipped

  • Turnaround & shipping times are updated regularly as needed

🌿 Thank you for your patience and support—it means the world to me as a small business owner creating each set with love.

🌙 How long does my hair need to be?

  • Your hair should be at least 3–4 inches long to create a secure braid and hold the extension in place.

🌿 Do I brush the loose ends or wavy dreads?

  • Loose Ends → Found at the tips of all accent dreads. You can brush them if you like, or leave them alone and they’ll naturally lock up beautifully over time.

  • Wavy Dreads → ❌ Never brush wavies. Brushing will separate the waves and stop the locking process. Instead, gently separate each loc with your fingers 1–2 times daily for the first month until they’re fully matured.

🌸 How do I install them?

Install with either:

  • A basic three-strand braid (just like the one you learned as a child)

  • Or the blanket stitch technique for extra security

    💧 Can I wash them?

  • Absolutely! You can wash as often as you’d like. 🌿

  • For full instructions, see the “Washing Your Hair” guide under the Wildwood Wisdom tab in the menu.

🌙 How long do the extensions last?

  • With proper care, your loc extensions can last for years—they’re made to be loved and re-worn many times.

🍂 How long can I wear them at a time?

  • For most people: 6–8 weeks

  • If your hair grows quickly: 4–6 weeks

  • You can reinstall them as often as you’d like! ✨
(I often take mine out just to put them right back in the next day.)

🌸 Will they damage my hair?

  • When cared for and installed correctly, braid-in dreadlock extensions are actually a protective style—helping your natural hair rest and grow. 🌿

The only time you’d need to be cautious is if your hair is:

  • Over-processed and brittle

  • Severely affected by alopecia

  • Or otherwise compromised in strength

  • Otherwise, locs are a safe, magical way to protect your hair while embracing a bold new style.

🌿 How many should I get?

That depends on the look you want! Here’s a general guide:

    • Undercut: 5–10 locs

    • Partial: 5–20 locs

    • Half head shaved: 20–35 locs

    • Full head (with small undercut or bangs out): 40–45 locs

    • Full head: 45–60 locs

If you’re new and want a full head, I suggest starting with about 45 locs so your scalp can adjust to the braids and new weight.

🌙 Keep in mind → Double-ended (DE) locs count as two. Installing 30 DE locs = 60 locs total once braided in.

🌸 Are they itchy or uncomfortable?

  • Initially, your scalp may require some time to adjust to the braids and added weight. Some people experience mild itching, tightness, or heaviness in the first few days.

    🌿 To help:

  • Give your dreads an ACV bath (soak in cool water + apple cider vinegar + a splash of shampoo).
⚠️ Never use hot water—it can loosen waves or change the shape.

  • Rinse thoroughly and hang dry.

  • Use light hair oils or serums on your scalp to keep it healthy and soothed.

  • Most find that after a short adjustment period, the locs become very comfortable and easy to wear!
